The increase of Spam drains E-Mail resources and causes annoyance to users all over the globe. Since 2003 many Anti-Spam laws have taken effect. However no previous technical or legal efforts to eliminate spam have proven effective. The SpamTrap development team has thoroughly researched spam communication patterns. Typical categories of spam include: bulk e-mail, which uses computer programs to gather large numbers of electronic mail addresses on an automated basis from internet websites or online services; illegitimate e-mail, which uses relay or retransmission through unauthorized access to send messages; anonymous e-mail, which intentionally hides the source and transmission data of messages; and forged e-mail, which intentionally disguises the source and transmission data of messages. Furthermore, the retrieval of Mail Transmission Data, which is only 3-10 KB in size, requires very little system resources or bandwidth.
