Spam's effects on modern enterprises – what IT solutions do enterprise really need?

Content

As economic conditions and consumer behavior continue to evolve, enterprises must engage in continuous reengineering in order to meet ever-increasing efficiency and execution requirements. Massive amounts of spam waste bandwidth and Internet resources, cause virus or other information security issues, affect employee moral and performance, increase overall operation costs and lower overall business competitiveness. How are far-sighted entrepreneurs and CIO's to design their IT infrastructures? How can enterprises maximize the effectiveness of past investments in network communication equipment as well as current expenditures in network connection fees and personnel? A top priority must be to effectively eliminate enterprise spam.

Spam accounts for 50% of all Internet email and generally consumes 70% of enterprise networking resources. It is generally accepted that at least 35% of enterprise IT engineering effort is expended repairing the damage to corporate profit, reputation and morale stemming from problems associated with spam and other unwanted or unnecessary email. Any solution for safe and efficient email communication must provide effective spam prevention, enhanced control of email passing through enterprise networks and minimal delays associated with virus scanning and other email filtering procedures. Thus these are exactly the solutions necessary for IT success in 2005.
